Diaper Girl

Here is another one of the onesies that I made finished and placed on Diaper Girl. The day before a shower I was going to after changing Warren's diaper in the morning this idea popped into my head. Could I form a body out of diapers, instead of doing it for a diaper cake? This is what it ended up looking like. Let's call her Daffodil for the yellow flower on her shirt.

I painted a box to put her in with a box of wipes to stand on and a tube of Desitin diaper rash cream in her arm.

I used 28 diapers to make her. Three sets of 7 for the head, upper and lower body. 2 sets of 2 for the arms. Finally a roll of 3 for the shoulders/neck.

She was quite fun to make and design. Now I want to make Diaper boy.

A Purse

This is a little purse that my visiting teacher had and I thought that it would be fun to make. Click here to view the tutorial. I made a few additions adding flowers and doing the pockets a little bit different too. Here is the purse that I made.

Long Time

It has been since the first of May since I have posted anything. I learned how to make flowers from Cami. Thuy taught me how to my a purse, and I tried to incorporate some flower techniques that I learned from Cami to put on the purse. I made some flower magnets for Mother's Day gifts. Tried to make a little dress for a little baby girl which I am not through with yet. It is ending up being more of a shirt (It got a wee bit to short). I finished a onsie that I had been working on before for a shower of a friend too.

These past few weeks for shopping I have been addicted to Smith's they had an event where all coupons that were less than $1 became worth a dollar off. It was a grand old time. Getting some storage and other items for FREE or less than a dollar. (If you are wondering why I put coupons on here too it is a project that I work on every week. We create shopping lists and opportunities to learn how to save money.)

I will post some pictures later and some of the things that I was able to get one some of my shopping trips.

I still have yet to complete one of the projects that I had originally set out to do. I WILL DO them I promise. My husband said that if I haven't done them then they need to go. I will get to work. However, in the process of doing this blog I have had the desire to create things which is important too.

Ruffle Bum

I love the morning shows Good Things Utah and Studio 5 are so fun to watch. I love the little crafts, recipes and other ideas that they feature. The other day I was watching and thought this would be a perfect gift for one of my friends who was having a baby shower. I don't have a picture of the one that I gave to her yet, camera was out of juice, but I had so much fun that I made another one that evening. Thank you for the idea Heidi. I think I will make so more they are so much fun. Here is the link to the tutorial/instructions Baby Onesies (Ruffle Bum). Below is a picture of the onesie I made.

I thought a flower would be fun on the front. The first I just kind of winged it.

This one I got the idea for the flower from here (Sweet Charli) and then the stem and petals from a shirt I saw at the baby shower that I went too. The girls shirt had some fabric that was thin and wound back and forth on the top of her shirt which gave me the idea for the stem part. Initially I thought this one would be cute with a ruffle bum too, but I decided that the front would have been sufficient at least for me.

There is another flower that I want to try from here. My husband asked me why I don't do a boy type shirt...last night I came up with an idea. Hopefully it works out.

Mending

Today I mended some clothes that have been needing to be fixed for a year and a half :) YEAH!! I have a 2 pairs of pants to fix that require more than stitching.. I need to go to the store and get some patches to help these puppies out. Also some binding tape for a blanket that I am making for my son. The blanket doesn't really need it but it will add a finishing touch. I better finish it before he out grows it.

Cake Balls

So for a shower that we have for one of my friends I made cake balls, inspired by Bakerella. I discovered that I need to work on my chocolate dipping skills. I tried to make little babies.
So it looked something like this, however, I should have used something better then black food coloring to do the face, because it ended up bleeding all over the place. I think I will make them again but do some tweaking to them. So they can turn out as I had hoped they would have. We had fun making them.

Nursing Cover

Yeah!! An unfinished project done the best way TEAM WORK. My friend Mary and Thuy came over to make a nursing cover we used the pattern from Bliss Tree. Mary has made a few of them and taught us how. We will help some of our sisters/friends from our ward make some too. After Warren woke up I had him be my model. The picture on the left, "Mom, feed me. I don't want to wear this!" The picture on the right, "I am cute, well fed, and mom loves playing with me. I love spoons!"
Thanks Mary and Thuy!

Projects

This week I am going to deliver the invitations for the baby shower for a friend. Make a nursing cover with another friend. I was going to make mine when Warren was born but I figured it was easier to purchase on from online and just pay the shipping. I got my nursing cover from Udder Covers. It should be fun to figure out how to do them.. I am thinking of a project for our anniversary too.... mmm.

Last Week

Warren's surgery went really well. You would have never known that he had had surgery after 5:00 pm that day. However, the evening of sleepless nights returned. Apparently after surgery babies schedules are out of the ordinary. This past week there has only been one day that he only woke up once that was so dreamy. There was one day when we were up early that I started wishing upon a morning star for my own vacation, which included 8+hrs. of sleep and laying on a beach soaking in the sun. Another night there were prayers of the heart given that I could have strength beyond my own. I am grateful for these little tender mercies. I do hope that he sleeps more and more for his health and strength too. After that one day of good sleep that I mentioned earlier it went back to the multiple wakings I turned on the TV and saw part of this talk given by Mary E. Smoot that I watched while I was feeding Warren that gave me the encouragement that I needed. The talk is titled The Possible Dream (video) If you can't see the video there is a transcript that you can download too. The part the really helped me this day is found on page 8 the last paragraph to the end. I need to read it again.

I really enjoyed watching Warren this week I love my little boy more and more each day.

Wednesday, March 24, 2010

So last week I was able to do 3/4 things I set out to do. Yeah!Get better, free toothpaste, and the best one was playing with the nieces who were visiting. I started the invitations but didn't finish because I was lacking some information.

This weeks goals:
1. Warren has surgery... depending on recovery will see what we can do. I'll report on what were able to do this week.

Wednesday, March 17, 2010

So I saw this posted on the Krazy Coupon Lady's website and thought I would give it a try. She found from on Family Fun website.
Mine didn't quite turn out like this because I didn't have a white cake mix (I used a spice cake mix) and I didn't spread out each layer after I put it in. They looked festive. It kind of reminded me of the Rainbow Jello that my mom would make. As well as for one of my birthdays she made me a seven layer cake for the seven values in Young Women's, Faith, Divine Nature, Individual Worth, Knowledge, Choice and Accountability, Good Works, and Integrity. Now they have added virtue to these values since that time. Anyhow, a walk down memory lane... this is how ours turned out.

We also had a green eggs and ham type meal for dinner too minus the ham, we had biscuits and gravy. I died the biscuits orange to have the Irish flag colors of our St. Patrick's Day meal.

March 17th

March 17th to most is just St. Patrick's Day, others their most important day of the year, their birthday, for me it has become more than a day to wear green but a day to remember that the Relief Society was organized in 1842. On lds.org they have a video to commemorate this wonderful occasion entitled Relief Society-An Enduring Legacy, I am listening/watching it right now. It gives the highlights of the talks given in the Annual General Relief Society Meeting in September of 2009(you can listen here). I love Relief Society and how it has blessed my life and my family. I am grateful that it was organized.

Leftover Pizza

Today for dinner I decided that we needed to use some of our leftovers and this is what we came up with.

1 refrigerated pizza crust
garlic herb spaghetti sauce to cover crust
1/4 c. canned corn
6 ground turkey meatballs
1 small handful each green, yellow, and orange bell peppers
1 sliced roma tomato
cream cheese (didn't have the regular stuff)
sprinkled basil, oregano, thyme, marjoram on top

Kyle was a little skeptical, but the results are in... "This is Good Stuff". I liked it too. I enjoy being creative in the kitchen. Sometimes it works other times I guess it is the process of creating something new that is the most important.

March 14-19 Projects

My projects to accomplish this week are:
  1. Get better: I woke up sick, sore throat, head cold.
  2. Coupon: get Free toothpaste from Walgreens and a $25 gift card from Rite Aid (If this doesn't happen that's ok because for me this week it may be 'a nobler art of leaving things undone' so I can get better.
  3. Visit Sister-In-Law and nieces who are in town for their spring break
  4. Baby Shower Invitations for a friend

Purpose

Yesterday I was listening to a talk by Relief Society General President Julie B. Beck, "Relief Society: A Sacred Work", given in September 2009. While I was listening she quoted President Dieter F Uchtdorf, he taught:
"A wise man once distinguished between 'the noble art of getting things done' and 'a nobler art of leaving things undone.' True 'wisdom in life,' he taught, consists of 'the elimination of non-essentials.'" President Uchtdorf then asked: "What are the nonessential things that clutter your days and steal your time? What are the habits you may have developed that do not serve a useful purpose? What are the unfinished or unstarted things that could add vigor, meaning, and joy to your life?

As I was trying to fall asleep on what seemed to be a sleepless night I got to thinking about the last question "What are the unfinished or unstarted things that could add vigor, meaning, and joy to your life?" I thought of all the projects that I have started and not completed, as well as the unstarted projects that I want to do, and the weekly projects that I usually do.

Just to name a few of the projects.

Unfinished Projects
  1. Baby Quilts
  2. Small Quilts
  3. Table Runners
  4. Wall Hanging
Unstarted Projects
  1. Warren's Memory Book
  2. A Wall Hanging (Something to cover up the electric box in our living room)
  3. Books to read
  4. A quiet book for Warren (and the little ones in the future)
I thought if I blogged about some of these things that can add vigor to my life that I would feel more accountable and accomplish the "Someday" pile of things I say someday I'll do that and then someday never comes. I know that I can accomplish these projects and learn from them too.
